The Chemist is responsible on shift for the overall safe, reliable and efficient management of the S3 power plant water chemistry for captive use and related issues in accordance with industry standards, environmental restrictions, original equipment manufacturers recommendations SAOM Standard Operating Procedures or as directed by the Chemical & Environment Engineer / Production ManagerThe duties and responsibilities of the Chemist include but are not limited to the following
Monitors the operation of the S3 demineralizers to assure consistent makeup water quality, makes frequent visual inspections, and checks for abnormal conditions.Monitors the chemical limits of the makeup water, the frequency of routine demineralizer regeneration and takes action to ensure that maximum permissible limits are not exceeded.Monitors condensate chemistry to assure consistent water quality and takes action to ensure that maximum permissible limits are not exceeded. Makes frequent visual inspection and checks for abnormal conditions.Ensues that HRSG feed water chemicals are fed to the HRSG feed water consistently to assure proper water quality. Monitors the re-mineralization plant including the CO2 system, limestone filtering system and chemical closing system to ensure potable water meet specifications. Communicates with the Maintenance Department by means of a Work Request to ensure that equipment malfunctions affecting water quality, receive prompt maintenance.
7. Monitors HRSG water chemistry to assure consistent water quality, and takes action to ensure that maximum permissible limits are not exceeded. Makes frequent visual inspections, and checks for abnormal conditions.. Monitors all cooling water chemistry to assure consistent water quality, and takes action to ensure that maximum permissible limits are not exceeded. Makes frequent visual inspections, and checks for abnormal conditions.Ensures that cooling water chemicals are fed to the cooling water system consistently to assure proper water quality.
Conducts water sampling and tests.Monitors fuel oil and gas chemistry to ensure that it is within the boiler design specifications. Promptly advises the Chemical & Environment Engineer of any deviation from fuel specification which could adversely affect the operation of the HRSGs.
Provide technical assistance in interpreting laboratory test results, and advice on impact of test results to the plant operation. Make daily, weekly and monthly reports as required.
Train new Plant Chemists as required.. Coordinates and cooperate with maintenance and engineering personnel for the overall benefit of S3 Power plant. Perform additional duties as required.Bachelorís degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.Three to five years of power generating / desalination plant experience.Ability to take direction and responsibility.Available to work in rotating shift.Demonstrated ability to analyze a problem and pursue it to a successful conclusion.Good communication skills
