Job Description

Job Description Template
We are seeking enthusiastic, aggressive journalists to join commodity and energy reporters based in Bangalore, covering a wide range of markets and responsibilities. At the core of the job is breaking news on highly competitive, market-moving U.S. refinery and power plant operations, which requires a combination of quick wits, sound industry knowledge and the reporting skills to constantly seek new and better ways to uncover and produce the news. As the team grows the job will take on a variety of other dimensions as well, including coverage of constantly changing forecasts for devastating U.S. Gulf hurricanes, alerting major changes in commodity price forecasts and analyzing research notes as well as exchange data for emerging trends. The successful candidate will need to be technically skilled in order to seek the most efficient way to find and produce news quickly, and must be a quick learner in order to master the ins and outs of energy and commodity markets, as able to prioritise the top news stories of the day as understand the difference between a delayed coker and a catalytic cracker. The correspondents will need to work closely with reporters in Singapore, London, New York and Chicago, often under extreme time pressure handling some of the most time-sensitive content that Reuters produces for C E markets.
Essential Responsibilities (Specific day-to-day responsibilities and milestones needed to achieve the objectives)
The journalists will have a range of duties that run from straightforward, standardised tasks to unexpected but urgent market-moving news. A core part of the job will be scouring all available electronic and other media for news of U.S. and European refinery and power plant outages, major events that are rarely publicly announced but can move a market instantly; in the same vein, reporters will be responsible for supporting global desks reporting on the progress of major C E-related weather events, particularly Gulf hurricanes as they approach the U.S. offshore oil, gas and refining centres. Helping produce and expand Reuters commodities polls will be another significant area, requiring strong contact-building skills with the analyst community, a deep understanding of the nuances of C E forecasting, and close attention to detail -- as well as a keen understanding of when a revised forecast may become news in itself. And the team will need to ensure the consistent production of data tables, exchange reports and other vital market statistics that our customers depend upon every day.
